If you're looking for a solid (color) shower curtain that is a cut above the rest, then look no more. What sets this shower curtain apart is the material, which is not the typical stiff substance you're accustomed to finding in most shower curtains, but a soft, hefty cotton.

If you're familiar with matelasse, you probably have an idea of the quality and weight of the fabric, but the ribbing is very different, especially in a shower curtain. I was particularly impressed with the "apparel quality" button holes for the shower hooks. While this may seem a trivial or minor detail to many, anyone who has suffered through a shower curtain that has ripped at the hooks or whose stitching was crudely done to the point of being eye catching will appreciate these. I hadn't actually noticed that in the item description, but it was the first thing I noticed about the curtain when I lifted it out of the package. OK, it was actually second to the softness of the fabric, which is like a...Read more

Fabric is deeply thick, feels soft and lush, very heavy, but does lint-off voluminously after laundering, so don't wash or dry it with anything else or the other items will be covered in white fluff. Perhaps it is a short-staple cotton. I wonder how well it will hold up over many washings. The color is too starkly snow-white to be my favorite shade, but you might get the warmer off-white that other reviewers have described....perhaps there is a lot of variability in the shade from the manufacturer. The matelasse looks a bit stripey, very thick fabric ribs alternating with thin fabric, which creates a stripey appearance. Again, not my favorite, but it's hard to find a soft cotton shower curtain. The buttonholes are a nice visual alternative to the look of grommets, and they suit my choice of clip-type shower curtain hooks for ease of removal and drying /laundering, since I also choose not to have the plasticky smell of vinyl liners, and so will be careful to dry this well. I like that...Read more

This shower curtain is very nice quality. The fabric is well-woven, with no flaws that I could find, and the sewing is precise. The color is a nice neutral color, a cool oatmeal rather than too warm an earth tone. Because of the thickness of the fabric, especially where doubled along seams, I wouldn't suggest letting it get wet on a daily basis (for fear of mildew). As others have mentioned, a liner would be needed.

For me, the downside is the weight. We have a spring-tension shower curtain rod, and it occasionally gives way just with a light polyester curtain on it. As soon as I felt the weight of the box when it arrived, I decided not to even try using it in our bathroom. This is not sheet-thickness cotton, it's more like a bedspread. I'm saving it to use in front of a storage alcove in our bedroom, where I can install a rod on a strong bracket.
